Three receive President's Award for Nurses

SINGAPORE: As Singapore honours Nurses Day this week, three nurses have received the President's Award for Nurses for their contributions to the profession.?

Nurses Day falls on August 1.

It is a reminder of their hard work and commitment - the demands of which will only grow - as Singapore rapidly ages.

The recipients were presented with the award by President Tony Tan Keng Yam at the Nurses Day Istana Reception on Wednesday evening.

The three are 55-year-old Chua Gek Phin, Director of Nursing from the National Cancer Centre Singapore; 55-year-old Chia Lay Hoon, Deputy Director of Nursing from the National University Hospital ICU and National University Heart Centre Singapore; and 34-year-old Jasmine Kang Sin Ee, Advanced Practice Nurse (Gerontology) from Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Ms Kang is the youngest recipient of the award since its inception 14 years ago.?

The award winners will each receive a trophy, a certificate and $6,000 which can be used to attend conferences and training programmes of their choice for professional and personal development.
